DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
Our wooden ethnic calendar is designed to help parents and educators introduce children to the ancient Latvian way of life and traditions, enriching children's cultural understanding. It promotes children's education by practically teaching the order of the seasons, months, dates of the day and the order of the days of the week. The calendar connects the Gregorian calendar with the Sun Rite, which is important for Latvians.
Practically working with this calendar, the child will learn and memorize the order of the seasons and their corresponding months, dates and the order of the days of the week. Waiting and celebrating the 8-year holiday together with the parents will enrich the child's soul, and in the future, perhaps, folk traditions will be continued.
The calendar connects the Gregorian calendar with the solar cycle. The Baltic peoples lived according to the solar calendar, and the Latvian system of counting time, preserved in Dainas, shows a high level of understanding of the solar rhythm. For ancient Latvians, the counting of days began on December 25, after the winter solstice, eras were counted from Meteņdien, and the economic year began on Łiņdien.
The year is divided under the influence of the rhythm of the sun, creating eight important events - 8 festivals of God, which should be recognized and celebrated. A description of these 8 celebrated days has been added to the calendar.
Using the two given blocks with numbers, it is possible to assemble all the dates of the month.
We wish you luck and happy moments in the family!
